Dog Life Pro specializes in personal training for puppies and behavior modification.  Our goal is to educate you and show you how to keep teaching your dog even after we’ve finished our training sessions.

Eight to 16 weeks is a critical learning and socialization period for your puppy.  Dogs that miss training, meeting lots of people and other dogs and getting exposure to many different sights and sounds often develop unwanted behaviors like destruction of your home, jumping on people, nipping, pulling on leash, and barking and lunging on walks

Even if your puppy missed this learning period, we can still help you. The key is to get started sooner than later. Because most behaviors are self-reinforcing, the longer you allow an unwanted behavior to continue, the stronger it becomes and the longer it takes to modify.

Why we never use punishment

Science tells us that dog’s learn best with positive reinforcement. Harvard professor B.F. Skinner first proved that punishment works as a deterrent, but has unintended, negative consequences such as fear and aggression.

Punishment sets the tone for an adversarial relationship. Loving dog owners don’t seek this type of relationship with their dogs.  Unfortunately, since dog training is an unregulated industry, there are still “trainers” out there promoting the use of positive punishment and advocating the use of prong, choke and shock collars. They are scoffing in the face of science.

Dog Life Pro, the AVSAB, IAABC, and all good dog trainers know that punishment can psychologically damage a dog.  At Dog Life Pro, we make training fun – isn’t that how it should be?
